Attention Slackers: Habits Make You a Better Slacker

March 19, 2017 By Sharon

Matt Wells, host of the Slacking Ambition podcast, and I talked about habits. Why should slackers care about habits?

Because the truth is that the healthiest people, the happiest people, the most productive people aren’t born differently than you. They just have better habits. Habits are a wonderful productivity tool for the brain. Relying on habit frees up your brain for other activities like thinking about all the things you have to do that day or how you’re going to handle a difficult situation. It literally saves energy because so many fewer neurons have to fire.

Stop thinking about those things you don’t need to think about. The exercising, the eating right, the spending quality time with your family, let those become like brushing your teeth in the morning. Let those important things happen automatically and you have more time and energy left over for slacking.
